a few thoughts...
Apr. 6th, 2005 12:17 amI'm sitting in Fionn Mac Cool's Public House in Downtown Toronto off the Esplanade. It's a busy night here, and many of the patrons have filled an otherwise slow night with anticipation of the Duran Duran show. I'm sitting here tapping into a PDA while around is a swirling sea of Irish and Canadian voices.
I've made my pilgrimmage here after vehicle fires, rush hour traffic, and accident investigations had led me to detour around the huge swath of urban greenland that slashes through Toronto/Markham. While things are very busy here tonight, the general mood is very mellow indeed. Even with manifest chaos surrounding them, the restaurants staff moves like a crack drill team. Their politeness and courtesy never wavers for a second. Even while they are running themselves ragged.
Fionn's is all brick, and tile...carved dark wood and brass. It is the closest thing to an oasis that I have ever seen. I looking around and it dawns on me that a lot of the backdrop for Requiem was based off of places like this. The classical look that is too cool to be style, that existed for so long it has morphed into something more closely resembling an entity in it's own right.

Mainly though I have been sitting at the bar here, drinking my soda and charting out the next chapter in Requiem in my head. I already know what happens...it's capturing the details that requires me to cast my antenna up. There is also a new comic series in the works that will also be based on the Requiem stuff. If all goes well it should be joining the front page section at "Renderosity" The comic is going to be called "Tunnelrunners" and will deal with a fairly unique subculture in the City of Erech and a discovery that changes everything for a whole lot of people. What happens in this strip is going to be set about 3 months before the chronology of the main strip and the main characters will be comprised of a group of 12-14 year olds.
The idea sprung into my head during rush hour on the way down to Fionn's and demands to be set down somewhere.
So it is going to be done. Things are caught up on the Requiem front...Pryce is being mapped out for what happens after the prologue that everybody has seen out there....and this one will open up another front in one long motherfucker of a story.
So in view of what is going to be coming I have one question for you all...
"If you were 12 years old, what would you do the summer before the end of the world?"
