I'm looking forward to a possible upcoming trip out to Pennsylvania. I recently heard word about http://www.jersey.net/~khjc/pa-turnpike.htm ;
It's a large section of abandoned, Pennsylvania turnpike that has now been opened up to the public and is in process of becoming a public trail through the Alleghennies. If it goes through, it will be nice to explore a bit of old architecture without worrying about tresspassing for a change :)
According to the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy http://www.saconservancy.org/projects/index.htm ; I would be looking at around 8 and a half miles of trail to explore...unfortunately two abandoned overpasses will be torn down by November.
