Our current law enforcement does not seem to understand that there are reasons for the rules, and that they generally have to do with keeping people a fucktonne smarter than they are from running circles around them.

I have two very strong reactions to what they are attempting to do. Make that four very strong reactions. I feel and do think that

1. The police and mayor seem to have developed global short as well as long term memory disorders. Correct me if I am wrong, but, to my knowledge what they are attempting to do goes against the United States constitution - more precisely against the bill of rights with which it begins.
2. Criminals do not acquire their guns by legal means and those whose source of income is derived from illegal acts will not hesitate to acquire them by/through illegal means
3. The only result will be to make the law abiding public more dependant on police and less on themselves. This in turn will make them more easily controlled through the use of force,fear and/or both.
   
   If the only people who will be carrying guns are the police as well as other figures of authority and the criminals, guess who is going to get hurt in a case of turf wars or shoot outs. Yes, you guessed it....the people who have given up their constitutional right to own and to carry guns and who do not have the means to protect themselves as well as their family or property.
4. The police have lost sight of how intelligent the average person is. Book Smarts is not the same as street smarts or even wisdom. With the advent of computers, there are people who are in possession of all three. Granted, such not a universal reality as yet. It's not even the reality of the majority as yet. But there are enough of such people around to make an impact on their neighbours (with luck). If they cannot seem to make an impact on their neighbours, maybe they are wise enough to leave Dodge City before it becomes a bad re-enactment of the Gunfight at OK Corral

My last comment about this is a statement of surprise.

I am surprised it took this long for the Police to try something like this.
I was expecting it much earlier. I am not surprised that this has happened but rather that it took so long to happen.
